Robert Combas was born in 1957 in Lyon. He is one of the leading artists of the Figuration Libre, which belongs to the Neo-pop movement. A group of French artists from the 1980s who fought for figurative freedom as the opposite of abstract art. Hervé Di Rosa, Jean-Charles Blais, François Boisrond,… are all artists who belonged to this group and with whom he often exhibited. His chairs, like his paintings, are often a humorous expression, but also a critique on society. Often we see an expression of violent and sexual context. His unique style, typified by the colourful drawings in thick lines, is easily recognizable.
