He was born in 1975 in Antwerp, Belgium, but moved to New York a year later. He was born almost deaf and diagnosed with autism at the age of five. Around the same age he came into contact with art, through the encounter and close relationship he had with Julian Schnabel. In his oeuvre certain elements often come back and he frequently uses the same materials, such as glass and metal, often found. His fascination for birds and planes is linked with his hard of hearing. He can still observe the loud engines of aircrafts, just like the high tones of bird noises. His fascination for glass, and its breaking, was influenced by Schnabel, who he once helped breaking ceramic plates. It is the chaotic beauty of broken glass that intrigues him. His oeuvre is a search for a balance between destruction and creation.
